The Special Needs Youth Club

Special needs
This youth club seeks to be an inclusive and welcoming place where young people aged sixteen years and above can meet to together and engage in a variety of activities and generally have fun!

There is a varied programme of activities such as playing board games, a range of seasonal craft, singing, nail painting, playing pool, bowling; once each term we have an evening of fun activities organised by the Explorer Scouts, the summer term is usually a visit to the Scout Activity Centre in Crawfordsburn. The Christmas term is finished by a Party. Each year we begin with an Outing followed by a meal in a local restaurant, some previous outings enjoyed have been Portrush by train, the Portaferry Aquarium and Carrickfergus Castle. The final meeting each year is our Beetle Drive which proves to be an enjoyable and competitive evening!

We provide a safe, caring environment and value each young person who comes along. Our young people have a variety of special needs, but at all times we seek to see the young person and not the special need. The leaders endeavour to model their faith in tangible ways, through their interaction with the young people. There is short presentation each evening, when we try to share something of the love of Jesus for each one of us.

Our final activity each evening is a cup of tea and a biscuit with time to chat and catch up on news! The club meets on alternate Wednesday evenings from 7.30-9.00pm in the Kairos Centre. Jenny Robinson is the leader in charge of the Youth Club and may be contacted through the church office.

NB The youth club is for young people with varying degrees of learning abilities, we are unable to accommodate young people with physical difficulties.

It is a safe and supervised place where young people can hang out with their friends giving them an alternative to the pressures they face on an everyday basis. Youth club is run by Christian leaders who aim to take an interest in the lives of young people. The leadership team aims to ensure that the club is fun, varied, welcoming and safe.
