Can I find joy in lockdown?
I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.
Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure.
It might seem a ridiculous question amidst the restrictions and pressures of lockdown and the daily diet of bad news…a ridiculous question whose only answer must surely be “No!”
But the Bible responds with a resounding “Yes!” It speaks of a joy that is the heart’s response to the goodness of God, despite the circumstances we find ourselves in.
And we find ourselves in the fight between “No!” and “Yes”!” and the only approach is to keep God and his goodness and kindness and love and care and compassion and grace and protection and provision always before us.
So to help you in your fight, here are some readings and songs that will help make your heart glad and bring rejoicing to your whole being
Joy and Delight
A few years ago our minister felt the need to “fight for joy” and the weapon he used to hack away at despair was the “sword of the Spirt” (Ephesians 6:17) – the Bible. What he produced was 6 months worth of daily devotions searching the Bible for joy and delight. Maybe you’ll find these helpful.
Sing, sing, sing!
The songs we sing on Sunday are not just to sing when we feel joyful, but to remind us and teach us about why we should be joyful. The words set God in front of us as we sing about who he is. On our Youtube channel you’ll find playlists of the songs we sing on Sundays so have a listen, learn, and then sing.
